Hazreti Mevlana...
700 years before, lived in Anatolia, today Turkey, in Konya, the genius holy man, mystic and philosopher, Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi.
Mevlana came, when he was a child, with his family from Belch, today Afganistan, to Antatolia and settled in Konya.
Mevlana was a virtuous person, a poet, a mystic, and a spiritual leader. He was an authority for the Coran and a wise man for mastering the problems of life.
All this richness of his wisdom, his way of living, found expression in the form of Sema.
His teachings included:
- Love
- Tolerance
- Hope
- Education
Until today his teachings haven´t lost their validity. Especially in the times when true values seem to be lost.
The poetry, the poems and the literature of Mevlana are wellknown in all over the world. They are touching and enjoying the hearts of human beings.
Rebab
Hazreti Mevlana´s son, Sultan Veled, also played the rebab. He wrote a book with the title Rebabname.
In his words we find suggestions to our thoughts, recommendations for our behaviour, warnings and help for right decisions and favour in life.
Unfortunatly there are today only a few people who are playing the original rebab.
The old instrument had two metal strings and one horsehair string. It is harder to keep the horsehair string in tune than it is to keep the metal strings.
Therefore they replaced the natural string with a metal string. But this is changing the sound considerably; in fact you mostly play the rebab on this string.
Thanks God, in different countries, some people started to take care of the old tradition and practise now under the leading of Dr. Rahmi Oruç Güvenç, playing the rebab in the original way and learning the old way of teaching.
Why Hazreti Mevlana choosed this instrument? The answer we find in his poems:
I said, my heart is my instrument, inside of myself. And every time it sends me the sound, like the rebab.
Hey you melody of the rebab! I´m sadder than you. But also in my heart lives my rebab. Don´t go! Come and stay a little while. I have only a simple, humble place - rest there, you visitor.
We took the taste of fire of love and water of love. We evaporated in the fire of the heart. So we found the way and we bandaged the wounds of love with pleasure.
Dear Aşkın, melody of love and rebab of my heart! Beauty, all the answers of the crying of my heart: you can find the perfect and that´s it what you are looking for. You can only find it in my destroyed heart.

The Tour
The UNESCO took the responsibility, to guard and protect the heritage of Mevlana and to declare 2007 as a Mevlana year.
With this important decision also the rebab, which Mevalana himself played, gains new importance
In the March of 2002, we organized the first time, with 24 international music students, a concert tour in Turkey. In the center of this tour was the rebab. The tour went to Istanbul, Eskişehir, Kütahya and Tavşanlı.
This year we want to go again on a Rebab Tour. We would like to experience the profound value of this instrument.
The two main subjects of the tour will be:
- the rebab
- the sema
In the books of Mevlana we find suggestions for our thoughts, recommendations for human behaviour, help and remindings to make the right decisions in our lives. We read about zhikir and sema.
This, we will study and experience on this tour.
In this Rebab Tour we get to known to the Turkish culture and mentality, which built the base for the spiritual richness and various kinds of music since more than 700 years, until today.
