From Heart to Medicine and from Medicine to the Heart , Preparations for the Future Seminars IV

Yard. Doç. Dr. Rahmi Oruç Güvenç

“From Heart to Medicine and from Medicine to the Heart , Preparations for the Future Seminars” which have been carried out in recent years in Antalya and Thermals of Yalova has developed in content and will be implemented at the Institute of Turkish Standards in Ankara between the 13th and 14 th of December from 10:00 to 18:00 under the name of “Regenerative Medicine and Spirituality”.

This activity, which is strongly recommended to people who have interest in Medicine and spiritual subjects and who want to improve themselves, will be a semblance of the meeting of alternative, complementary, comparative and- with its new name- regenerative Medicine which is helping to reunite the body-soul unity which modern medicine has left incomplete.

In the 6th, 7th and the 8th centuries The Medicine of Horasan (Transoxiana - Trans Oguz)had established the basic principles of world medicine by taking soul-body unity as a base. Soul-body unity which was neglected after the Horasan experience has since then transformed into a medical understanding which is only concerned with the body. The elimination of this mistake was realized with the slow participation of a series of new trends which was developing with alternative medicine (alternative, complementary, comparative and regenerative).

With this understanding , especially in Austria and Germany, symposia and conferences are being organized intensively for the last five years and TUMATA is exhibiting Turkish legacy with the art and knowledge values which it owns. Dr. Rahimi Oruç Güvenç and occupational therapist Azize Andrea Güvenç will take part in the International Prayer Conference in Hamburg which is being organized for the second time sparked by this understanding between the dates of 2-5 November 2007.

Responding to a request of Turkey, Egypt and Afghanistan, UNESCO has declared the year 2007 as the “Year of Hz. Mevlana”. Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi is one of the most known saints of the mystical dimension of Islam. He lived and taught in the 13th century in Konya, Central Anatolia. According to the Western calendar Rumi would have celebrated his 800th birthday this year. All over the world conferences are taking place this year honouring the philosophy of Mevlana, who is known for his attitude of love and tolerance.

His funeral on December 17th 1273 was attended not only by his disciples but also by practitioners of other religions, e.g. Christians and Jews. Inspite of this being an Islamic funeral, they were supposedly crying, reciting passages of the old and new testaments of the bible. They claimed the character of Mevlana to be equal to Moses´ and Jesus´ characters.

Central to Mevlana´s teachings is Love, which he considered to be the essential force underlying the universe. As the universe just exists due to God´s love, human beings have to learn to love God. Thus learning to love whatever has been created by God, i.e. one´s fellow men, nature, everything in creation. “For the lovers of God, God only is the source of joy and sorrow. He is the reward of their labor and the actual treasure”. (Mathnevi, Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi)

The Sufi order of the Mevlevis, which was established after Mevlana´s death, flourished during the period of the Turkish Selchooks and during the Ottoman empire. Nowadays there are many organizations in many countries around the world who are following the philosophy of Mevlana and who practice exercises of the mytical path, such as “dhikr” (remembrance of God) and “sema”, the whirling prayer of the Mevlevi dervishes.

During the “40 days and nights sema” in Yalova during the years of 2006 and 2007 the idea came up to organize an international conference in the honour of Rumi with the topic “Regenerative Medicine and Spirituality.”

Regenerative medicine

“Regenerative Medicine” (Latin: regeneratio = renewal) is a new branch of biomedicine. Here, various diseases are being treated via the regeneration of cells, tissues and organs through the initiation of regenerative and restorative processes inherent in the body.

On the basis of this knowledge the direct use of the patients body intrinsic potential for new therapeutic approaches becomes more and more scientific reality. Including mind and consciousness of patients together with rhythmic cell processes (harmonic time pattern) in therapeutic concepts play thereby an increasing role. Scientific fields like Psychotherapy, modern cell biology and medicine are linked to the pentatonic Sufi music from former central Asia, already used to activate healing processes and whose main representative of our times is Dr. RAHMI ORUC GUVENC.
