In the Tavern of Love - 5 day Intensive Workshop
August 11–15, 2009
In this workshop we build upon the foundation of the 7 primary elements of Mystical Dance - which correspond to each Chakra - and focus on dancing from the Heart. Set between the three lower Chakras that are physical, and constitute groundedness, alignment and power, and the three upper Chakras that are energetic and constitute surrender, intuition and Presence, we find the Heart and its corresponding movement at the center, integrating the physical and the energetic dimensions.
Guided by the poetry of Rumi and Hafez, we explore the imagery of the Tavern and love's intoxication through movement that lies between trance and control, letting go and technique.
In addition to gaining more awareness of your energy anatomy and being able to dance from the Heart, you will take home a daily movement practice that supports an inner alchemy of turning negativity to gold. Our setting is a Sufi Gathering House or Dergah, a true tavern of love, beyond any particular religion and open to all.

- 6 hours of teaching a day with the rest of the day free to explore the beautiful beaches, villages and sites of Turkey's exquisite Marmara region.
Fee for 5-day Intensive Workshop:
- 400 Euro (can pay the equivalent in dollars) including lodging and meals at the Dergah (communal sleeping, separate women's and men's quarters). Arrival - August 10

Bring veils of 5.5 by 2.5 meters to dance with, socks or soft-soled shoes.

Based in California, the Iranian-born Banafsheh Sayyad is one of the few bearers of authentic Persian dance and the pioneer of Dance of Oneness . With a background in Persian dance, Flamenco, Tai Chi and Eastern sacred dances, Banafsheh's solo and ensemble work with her dance company, NAMAH has been presented extensively in North America, Europe and Australia where she has gained tremendous acclaim. With a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Dance and a Masters degree in Chinese Medicine, Banafsheh teaches across North America, Europe and Turkey.
