Rebab in Rumi´s stanzas
66
The voice of Israfil1 emanating from the Rebab has refreshed the scorched hearts. It has revived them. The drowned and tired love affairs began to wriggle like fish which finally reached water.
67
Just like every other day, we are tired and beaten today too; do not open the gates of thought for this matter and take the Rebab in your hand! For the ones who accept the face of the beloved as a niche, there are hundred ways to pray, to plead, to bow and to prostrate.
75
Oh the poor soul who is late to the door of annihilation of his ego! Although the children may run, don´t you hurry! Some of the ones who have passed early have since lagged behind; don´t look at them! Now the turn is yours! Play the Rebab!
80
Don´t just sit down idly, come and unite with people! Remaining idle lowers ones self or wastes the time. Voice of the Rebab is coming from the congregation. Run to the circle of benefactors; join them!
82
Do you know what the voice of the Rebab is telling? It says follow me and learn the way; for you may follow the wrong path and end up in the right way. You may go to the direction of questions and end up with the answer.
84
The heart, with the hope of coming together with you, is flaming like the Rebab! Every portion of my body is scorched with the love of the heart. The belowed is silent because of our dilemma, but in that silence, there are two hundred answers.
329
I said that my heart is my instrument; is my tool. My heart pleads with me like the Rebab. Has this heart become a lover of anyone else but you; I say that she is only my playmate.
469
An arrow has been released from the Rebab which is like a bow. It has penetrated the skin and reached the heart. Look at the membrane that penetrates the nectar. See the curtain that tears down curtains!
496
The most desirable routines and the most desirable habits, all of them can be seen in Mohammed2 . He caresses us by resounding his Rebab till the morning and when he feels sleepy, he ties the neck of his Rebab.
682
Without you, even if I plant a rose I will only reap thorns in the field of my fortune. If I lay down a peacock egg, a snake will come out of it. Whether I take the Rebab or any other instrument in my hand and play it in eight heavens, they will all turn into hell.
691
Here is the dawn! Bring us pure wine! Because for the wise man life means death. Either tolarate the whining of the Rebab or bear with the sorrow of the scorched hearts.
906
Oh the sound of the Rebab! I am more troubled than you are. For I too have a Rebab in my heart. Don´t go, come and stay; sit for a while. I possess a place in ruins, spend some time there!
922
We have tasted the fire and the water of love. In the fire of love we have boiled like water. For now, we have attained an order like the Rebab of the heart, and wrapped the wounds of the thrust of love kindly.
933
For how long will I have to suffer the blows of reproach like the tambourine, and be wounded with the strikes of sorrow like the Rebab. You say that, you are caressing me like an instrument pressed to your bossom. But I am not your flute, having to bear with your bitter breath.
1131
Oh the beloved! The tune of love and the Rebab of my heart! Oh the beauty with all her whining who has all the answers for my heart. You will find the state of solace which you seek. However, it will be found only in my heart which in ruins.
1136
Oh the one who plays on the Rebab in my heart! Come and listen to the answer from the whining of my soul. In every ruin there is a secret treasure of its kind. And in the ruins of my heart hidden is the treasure of love.
1162
Hearts are similar to the Rebab, and your love is similar to the bow which plays it. What wibrates the heart is the forward and backward movements of the small bowl and the string. The sound of the bow depends on the string of the instrument. Ones the string is silent, no thoughts can interfere anymore.
1436
Oh the whining of the Rebab! Where do you come from? You are full of fire, slander and strife. You are like a spy of the heart and the herald of the path of love. Whatever you command are the secrets of the soul.
1608
With the grail in my hand at dawn, I was singing the song of the grail makers. The beauty that makes faries jealous, came suddenly with a grail in her hand and said: “If you smash the grail on the floor, you will get a decanter in its place.”
